Inferior Vena Cava Filters are designed to be implanted temporarily in patients to catch blood clots before they can enter the lungs, causing pulmonary embolism. Unfortunately these filters, made by Bard, Cook, and several other companies, have proven to be defective and dangerous, and have caused injuries in many people who have undergone the implant.
These IVC filters carry a high risk of fracture – the arms of the filter can break off and migrate into the heart or other organs, causing injury or death. The filters can also become wholly dislodged and travel through the bloodstream, tearing arteries or other tissue. The filters can simply tilt or migrate in such a way that they become irretrievable.
The FDA now warns that these filters pose great danger and should be removed as soon as the patient’s risk of blood clots has subsided.
If you have been implanted with an IVC filter (common models are the Bard Recovery and the Bard G2) and have experienced problems as a result, please call the Miller Firm today for a free consultation at 1-800-882-2525 or email us at [email protected]. Our lawyers have the ability to represent clients across the country against the manufacturers of these filters and would pursue your case as an individual lawsuit if it meets our qualifying criteria.
