The Tiger Paw II is a surgical staple used to close the left atrial appendage in the heart, typically in patients with atrial fibrillation.
The FDA has issued a Class I recall of the Tier Paw system, because of the danger of incomplete closure of the surgical staples. There is a significant rate of failure of these staples; if they do not achieve complete closure, it can result in tearing of the heart tissue, or even death.
