Timothy Litzenburg of The Miller Firm will speak at an international Monsanto Tribunal held from October 14-16, 2016 at The Hague in the Netherlands, home to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and U.N. International Court of Justice. This tribunal is an international initiative to hold the Monsanto company accountable for its crimes against humanity and the environment. The crimes addressed include the knowing distribution of dangerous products including their herbicide, Roundup®, and the systematic concealment of the products’ extreme toxicity.
The Tribunal states that Roundup® and other Monsanto products are permanently damaging to the environment and responsible for thousands of illnesses and deaths. This historic civic tribunal is held in direct response to Monsanto’s perpetual and strategic concealment of Roundup’s® toxicity through funding fraudulent science, lying, media manipulation, and other corrupt tactics. The tribunal will explore how to “hold a company responsible for violating fundamental rights including but not limited to the right to food, health, [and] information” (monsanto-tribunal.org). The tribunal will function under the U.N.’s Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the ICC’s Rome Statute.
The tribunal brings illustrious judges and lawyers from around the globe together, including Litzenburg of The Miller Firm. Litzenburg will testify on behalf of The Miller Firm’s clients during the Impact on Human Health session on October 15. The Miller Firm has filed multiple lawsuits in several state and federal courts in the U.S., seeking to hold Monsanto accountable for its scientific fraud, which caused thousands of people to develop non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After the hearings, the judges will give a legal opinion on the health and environmental damages Monsanto has caused, following procedures of the International Court of Justice.
Monsanto has known that their widely used herbicide, Roundup®, and its key ingredient, Glyphosate, were dangerous to human health since the 1970’s but have continued to market it as safe. Several scientists were convicted and served time in federal prisons for falsifying test results regarding the toxicity of Monsanto’s herbicides. In 2015, the World Health Organization listed Roundup®/Glyphosate as a “probable human carcinogen.” Farmers and those living near farms using Roundup® have developed cancer and other serious ailments through Roundup® inhalation or skin exposure. These ailments include non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Recent studies suggest that farmers who use Roundup® or Glyphosate have at least double the risk of developing Lymphoma.
The Miller firm values farmers’ fundamental rights to health and life and intends to hold Monsanto and others responsible for the dangerous and deadly effects of Roundup®/Glyphosate. The Miller Firm is presently accepting clients who developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after using Monsanto’s Roundup® herbicide.
