The Miller Firm took the first Roundup cancer claim to trial and subsequently was co-lead counsel on the first trials involving Paraquat Parkinson’s disease claims. The Miller Firm is now pursuing cases for farmers, farmworkers, users with occupational exposure, and others who were exposed to chlorpyrifos-based pesticides, such as Lorsban, Dursban, among other trade names, and later developed Parkinson’s disease.
What is chlorpyrifos?
Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate insecticide. The same properties that make it effective at killing insects pose serious risks to the human nervous system, particularly for those with chronic exposure.
The chemical has been on the market in the United States since 1965 and has been used on a wide range of crops, as well as in residential pest control, golf course maintenance, and structural termite treatment.
Chlorpyrifos and Parkinson’s disease risk
UCLA Health scientists in a 2026 study found that long-term residential exposure to chlorpyrifos is associated with a more than 2.5-fold increased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. We believe this study now provides our experts solid scientific data to pursue this litigation in court.
Chlorpyrifos has been the subject of growing concern due to its potential health risks to humans, especially those who are exposed to it regularly. In fact, the EPA took the exceptional measure of banning it in 2021, although it subsequently backtracked on this ban.
Nonetheless, due primarily to neurotoxic risks, various states have stepped in to ban or heavily restrict chlorpyrifos, including Hawaii, California, New York, Maryland, Oregon, and Maine.
Who may have a chlorpyrifos Parkinson’s disease claim?
People who may have been exposed to chlorpyrifos that we would be interested in evaluating a case for include:
- Farmers and farmworkers who applied or worked near chlorpyrifos
- Licensed pesticide applicators
- Crop dusters and aerial applicators
- Workers at pesticide mixing and loading facilities
- Landscapers and groundskeepers
- Golf course maintenance workers
- California residents living near agricultural fields where chlorpyrifos was sprayed
- Gulf War Veterans
- Individuals who used chlorpyrifos residentially prior to 2001
