The Miller Firm has partnered with The Rothenberg Law Firm in the creation and launch of a new website designed to aid and empower victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in pursuing legal justice and monetary compensation.
In September 2016, the United States Congress enacted the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (“JASTA”). If you or your family members sustained injuries as a result of the 9/11 tragedies, JASTA permits you and your family to pursue a lawsuit in United States Federal District Court against Saudi Arabia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The helpful new website about the 9/11 litigation under JASTA (https://www.911victimslawsuit.com/) explains that:
“Anyone who was physically or emotionally injured as a direct result of the 9/11 attacks can join this lawsuit against Saudi Arabia. This includes those exposed to Ground Zero dust or other harmful conditions.”
Under these terms, victims include first responders, such as police, fire and EMS professionals, people who worked or lived in lower Manhattan or the other 9/11 attack site, cleanup personnel, and construction and utility workers engaged on the pile (from Con Ed, Verizon, etc.). The website also explains that family members can sue for emotional distress and that there are no up-front attorney fees. The FAQ page answers many pertinent inquiries related to these lawsuits in greater detail.
The Miller Firm’s acclaimed trial team has won numerous verdicts as lead counsel from coast to coast in complex mass tort litigation. The firm has an established record of winning substantial judgments from state sponsors of terrorism. The Miller Firm and The Rothenberg Law Firm collaborated in securing the monumental judgment of $8.7 billion on behalf of U.S. nationals killed or injured in the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. The firms have successfully collaborated on behalf of other state sponsored terrorism victims as well.
As part of this multibillion judgment, in April 2017, the Department of Justice announced the payment of more than $1 billion to 2332 terrorism victims from the U.S. Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund. The Miller Firm represents about 600 victims of the 1998 bombings who were included in this settlement.
Two days after JASTA passed in 2016, The Miller Firm filed a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia in Washington, D.C., which was the first such lawsuit filed since passage of the bill. We are dedicated to realizing meaningful justice and obtaining concrete benefits for the victims and families of 9/11. If you are one of these victims or family members, we offer our deepest continuing sympathies.
